Program background

CEU Business School Baku MINI MBA Program is a joint project of the CEU Business School and Azerbaijan Marketing Society.

CEU Business School is a USA accredited and licensed management school in the heart of new Europe. It was founded by a group of visionary leaders, including George Soros in 1988, and became a landmark institution since it was the first school in Central-Eastern Europe to offer graduate business education leading to an American MBA. CEU Business School has campuses in Bucharest and Budapest, and has been in the forefront of change for twenty years.

CEU Business School's graduate programs focus on the social, political, ethical and cultural drivers and barriers to doing business across borders. Since its creation the school continues to play a pivotal role in linking global management theories with the realities and challenges of the region's transforming economies. The business school is devoted not only to teach its students how to conduct business in a complex society, but also to introduce them to a higher business culture of enhanced social values. The goal of this program is to provide a high quality management training program for managers who already have some managerial experience and are candidates for higher positions. The goal is to update and enhance their management knowledge on the most important management fields.

Program details/schedules

The program is modular and run on Friday afternoons and Saturdays. Total length is approximately 72 classroom hours. The modules are to be planned and delivered by CEU BS faculty members, cooperating with local experts when necessary and possible. Working language is English but some local contributors may use Russian as well. Each participant gets a complete course package with readings, slides, handouts etc. at the beginning of the program. Number of participants: 15-25.

A certificate is provided at the end of the program jointly issued by CEU BS and the Azerbaijan Marketing Society to those who pass a final exam successfully and their participation measured by time spent on the program reaches 80%.

Program duration is 6 weeks and it consists of 6 modules

Dr. György Bögel

Dr. György Bögel is Professor of Management and Director of Executive Education Programs (EEP) at Central European University Business School since 2005. He teaches Outsourcing Strategies and Transformation of IT Multinationals. He also worked in KFKI Computer Systems Corporation during 2001-2005 and worked with management teams on organizational change and management development projects in numerous companies.

Dr. György Bögel has PhD from Hungarian Academy of Sciences. Dr. Bögel's research interests include corporate organization, organizational behavior, management and organization of multibusiness companies (SBUs, profit centers, internal market, CHQ's functions, value-creation, synergy etc.) and the influence of information technology on corporate strategy and organization.

He is an author of more than 100 books, articles, book chapters and studies on corporate organization, strategy, transfer pricing, organization theory, corporate governance, telecommunication, IT, knowledge management, e-business.

Dr. Yusaf Akbar

Dr. Yusaf Akbar is Associate Professor of Management and MBA Director at CEU Business School since 2006. He also worked as Associate Professor in International Business, Southern New Hampshire University, USA and Visiting Professor in International Business, CERAM Sophia Antipolis, European Graduate School of Management and Technology, Nice, France as well as Lecturer in Political Economy, European Business School, London, UK.

His guest visiting teaching positions include working as Associate Professor, Strategic Management Program, University of Michigan; Associate Professor, Antai School of Management, Shanghai Jiatong University; Associate Professor in Strategy, Thunderbird American Graduate School of International Management, Archamps, France; Professor, Groupe ESSCA Hungary, BIMS Program; Lecturer, Queen's University International Study Centre, UK.

Dr. Akbar is a member of the Lithuanian National Competitiveness Committee and of the Business Advisory Network, NESst Venture Fund. Dr. Akbar has PhD from Sussex European Institute, University of Sussex, UK, 2000 and MA from College of Europe, Bruges, Belgium, 1993. Dr. Akbar's research interests include service leadership strategies in Central and East Europe, management development in post-transition countries, explaining service company performance: the role of organizational heritage and the permanently failing organization. He is an author of numerous books, articles, book chapters, research papers and studies.

Dr. Zoltán Buzády

Dr. Zoltán Buzády works as Assistant Professor of Management and Organizations at the Central European University Business School since 2007. He is also a member of the Executive Education Programmes' Task Force and of the Faculty Review and Governance Committee there. Since 2007 he serves as Chairman of the Professional Advisory Board to Sensa Consulting Budapest as well as a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of East European Management Studies.

Dr. Buzady has PhD from Budapest University of Economic Sciences and Public Administration, Faculty of Business Administration and MBA from City University Business School (now: Cass Business School), London.

His research and teaching interests include academic rigor, inter-company relationships and alliances, case-study method, corporate strategies in Central and Eastern Europe, interactive, participant-centered teaching skills, regional expansion and integration strategies, cross-cultural exposure, cross-cultural management in CEE.

Mr. Jay Fogelman

Mr. Jay Fogelman is Senior lecturer and Academic Director of MSc program Central European University Business School since 2005. She teaches Developing IT Strategies, Evaluating Strategic IT Suppliers, Negotiation Skills, IT Solution Selling, Topics in IT Law: Intellectual Property, Mathematics and Statistics (undergraduate), and Computer Science for Business (undergraduate). He also serves as Principal at Continuum Consulting BT Company being responsible for delivering Business Continuity Consulting, Education, IT Operations Management Consulting, IT Strategy development, executive coaching and IT Infrastructure Business Cases throughout Europe. Ms. Fogelman's previous professional record features working at EMC Corporation, SAS Scandinavian Airlines, SAS Data, etc. Mr. Fogelman is a graduate of John Hopkins University.

Dr. Maria Frindrik

Dr. Maria Frindrik is Associate Professor of Economics at Central European University Business School since 2001. She also worked as Adjunct Professor, Columbia University, SIPA School, New York in 1996 as well as Visiting Professor in Columbia University Perdue University and Colorado College. Her previous work experience features serving as Advisor of the Education Committee to the United Nations Association (UNA), New York in 2007 and serving as a member of the Advisory committee to the Prime minister of Hungary in 1996-1998.

Dr. Frindrik has PhD in Economics from Hungarian Academy of Sciences. In 2000 Dr. Frindrik received the Award of the Minister of Education, Hungary for teaching Services in Higher Education.

Dr.  Numan Ülkü

Dr. Numan Ülkü is Professor at Central European University Business School. He also works Strategist and Analyst at Nurol Securities Inc. since 1998. He worked as Assistant Professor at Mediterranean University, Department of Economics and Yeditepe University, Faculty of Business and Economics.

Dr. Numan Ülkü has Ph.D from Marmara University as well as MBA (Finance) from Boğaziçi University and MBA (Finance) from McGill University, Montreal, Canada.

Dr. Ülkü's research interests include technical analysis, predictability in financial markets, market efficiency, behavioral finance, financial economics, market microstructure, foreign exchange rates. He is an author of numerous books and articles on these subject-matters.
